What does Healthy Communities of Pierce County do?

Healthy Communities of Pierce County leads efforts to promote healthy lifestyles for the residents of Pierce County including regular physical activity and healthy nutrition, the key to prevention and control of obesity, chronic disease, and other health problems. Healthy Communities supports environmental solutions, institutional and government policies and practices, as well as community activities and partnerships to build and sustain healthy lifestyles and communities. We are conveners, supporters and communicators; perhaps as initiator and gatherers but not as imposers for activities and issues related to child wellness; we identify areas of highest risk and greatest need and thus our focus.

Our Goals

• Increase the proportion of Pierce County residents whose diets reflect the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
• Increase the proportion of Pierce County residents who get at least 30 minutes of moderate activity on five or more days of the week.
• During the past year, HCPC has grown from a grant-making and programmatic planning organization to a broader, systems-level approach to chronic disease prevention.
